The Canadian smartphone maker BlackBerry has started rolling out a new update to BBM, with a Private chat feature and other improvements for Android, BlackBerry 10, and iOS.
It is available for download from Google Play in Android, BB 10 from BlackBerry world, but the App store still does not have the latest update and continues to provide the update released in April.
The latest update comprises of privacy and control subscription that replaces the existing Timed and Retracted Messages subscription. One of the notable features offered in the subscription is the private chat that allows users to have a private chat without contact names or a new message notification and the chat also sports self-destructs after a short span.
The new edit option is added to the previously offered timed and retracted messages. With the edit option, users will be able to retract, change and resend the message. The privacy and control subscription will be approximately for Rs 63 per month and the users who are currently using this option will get the upgrade.
The firm says that it is similar to Timed Messages, if a user takes screenshot of a private conversation it cannot be identified by either party as there are no contact names. To remind users, screenshot can be taken of the timed messages, but the sender gets a notification.
BBM for iOS users has also been updated with the new font sizes and for BlackBerry 10, the BBM app gets Quote Message feature as well as the ability to update status from the Feeds tab, and ability to manage sticker collections.
BBM for Android is revamped with a Material Design makeover that brings a new look and also has a new colour theme. Add-ons in this update include new hide, unused sticker packs; Quote Message (reply to a previous message in chat), tablet support, and landscape mode support. The update also allows users to update status from the feed.
