Malli Mastan Babu - Indian Mountaineers

Malli Mastan Babu, India's top mountaineer who grabbed international recognition by climbing seven important summits in the seven continents in a record time, breathed his last while climbing Cerro Tres Cruces Sur, the second highest mountain of Chile, at 6,749m.It is not that easy to scale such great heights and at a very young age he did so despite facing many hurdles. Mastan Babu hails from agriculture background, but it did not stop from achieving his dreams. Masthan was an IIT graduate and then made it to IIM Calcutta, from where he passed out with good results. It was at Calcutta that he developed interest in the adventure sport. He founded an adventure club in the IIM Calcutta and later decided to give up his job to pursue his dreams.

Mastan Babu raised money for his adventure trip through motivational talks and conducting adventure camps.In a span of 172 days, Masthan Babu scaled the highest mountain peaks of each of the seven continents and created a record.  He would train for about eight hours every day to keep himself fit and mostly he used climb solo as Mastan believed that others would not keep the pace with him. One of Mastan’s dreams was to run 29 marathons; one from each state of the country, which went unfulfilled.When Masthan was asked how he overcame the language barrier during his South American climb, he smiled and said, "Mountains all over the world speak the same language.” Isn’t that statement so inspiring!
