Basthi Movie Review

Story
Vijay (Shreyan Kapoor) brother of Ammiraju (Mukesh Rushi) returns to India; at his house, he meets and falls in love with Shravanthi (Pragathi). But she is the daughter of Bikshapathi (Kota Srinivasa Rao), whose son Abhimanyu Singh is a notorious gangster in Basthi. In one of his issues he kills the wife of Ammiraju’s associate. Which makes Shravanthi vulnerable to the rival attacks. Things turn around, when she gets kidnapped by two masked vigilantes. And Abhimanyu totally doubts his opponent Ammiraju for this. Then rest of the story is all about how Vijay plays some mind games to marry Shravanthi.
Review
Nothing exciting in the plot, story is routine and scenes are wearisome. Neither music, nor comedy nor fights have any appeal. On top of it all, performances are too weak. The movie feels like an old version of a dubbed film. Heroines are usually new to Telugu language, but here hero also seems to not know the language. Or did someone else do the dubbing for him? The heroine looks just like another girl next door and Shreayan looks a hunk, but both could improve a lot on their acting. In fact you feel that it’s a mismatch of casting. Such a tall guy romancing a cute girl looks a bit awkward. He could try out some action flick rather or could easily get into a grey role. Of course, the movie had action sequences but not greatly choreographed. His only saving grace is that he is son of veteran actress, Jayasudha who is known for her natural acting. Shreyan might not have taken tips from her on acting. Or maybe the director did not try hard enough !There are no great performances from other actors either.
