First plane to fly through Venus in the offing

 A global aerospace firm is planning to develop an airplane that can fly through the Venus?s atmosphere. The Virginia based company is planning to do this by 2021.Space.com cited that the firm is gearing up to enter into NASA?s new frontier planetary science competition and is designing an inflatable, propeller powered aircraft that lasts long and flies in the skies of Venus.This will be a part of Venus mission concept called Venus Atmosphere Manoeuvrable Platform (VAMP). And the plane is supposed to have a wingspan which is twice of the wingspan of the Boeing 770.It travels at an estimated top speed of 220 km an hour.

Resembling an alien sample in the Venus atmosphere. To get its inflatable propeller aircraft off the ground, the company aims for $1 billion of NASA funding.The plane would comprise of 200kg worth of instruments like cameras and atmospheric samples and would be flown 50-70 km above the surface of Venus where the atmospheric pressure is equal to that on the Earth. The plane would be carried to Venus via a spacecraft.The ground temperature of Venus is very high, when compared to earth it is estimated to be almost around 460 degree Celsius.

"Surviving on the surface for any longer than four hours and getting high-resolution data is a challenge," Constantine Tsang from Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado was quoted as saying."The winning mission would have to be ready for launch around 2021," Jim Green, NASA's director of planetary science, had said in an earlier statement.
